Mark Kotsay set to retire after 2013 season

Padres outfielder Mark Kotsay announced Saturday that he will retire at the end of the season, U-T San Diego reports.

“I know this is a good time physically and mentally for me to retire . . . these are my last games as a player,” Kotsay told U-T San Diego Saturday.

Kotsay has played 17 seasons, debuting in the majors with the Marlins in 1997. Over his career, he’s amassed 127 home runs, 720 RBI and 98 stolen bases while hitting .276/.332/.405 in 6,451 at-bats through Saturday.
