Francisco Liriano loses no-hit bid in seventh inning

Pirates pitcher Francisco Liriano no-hit the Cubs for six innings Saturday before giving up hits to the first three batters in the seventh inning, including a two-run homer, to end his day. Liriano officially gave up two earned runs on three hits and four walks while striking out four in six innings in Pittsburgh’s 3-2 win over the Cubs.

Liriano didn’t factor into the decision, as the Pirates didn’t score the winning run until the bottom of the eighth inning. He takes a 16-7 record, 2.92 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 148:59 K:BB ratio into Friday’s scheduled start against the Reds.
